Foundation Phase / Grondslagfase

INTRODUCTION

The teachers in the Foundation Phase strive to be knowledgeable  and be authoritative in educating learners with specific learning disabilities.  This is achieved by means of CAPS where emphasis is placed on obtaining life skills and knowledge.  Norms and values are also developed, which will sustain them into adulthood.

THE LEARNER

Learners with the following attribute will gain from the programmes presented by our school:

  • Impulsiveness, restlessness, hyperactivity and easily distracted
  • Children that are not able to express themselves have problems with word finding and have a lack of vocabulary
  • Children that are clumsy and drop everything
  • Children that prefer to play rather than do structured work

THE EDUCATOR

The Educator in the Foundation Phase has the following attributes:

SPECIALIZED PROGRAMMES

READING AND SPELLING PROGRAMMES

Learners are accommodated in small groups.  Attention is given to reading and spelling on a daily basis.  Reading and spelling material is developed for the learning disabled learner by the class teacher to assist the individual learner and to develop his / her skills.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMES

Computer support programmes are developed to aid and assist class programmes.

THERAPISTS

Any problems that may occur are reported to the Occupational, Speech, Remedial therapists or Psychologist for further support.

EXCURSIONS

Special arrangements are made for educational presentations at school, suitable for the learners.

SPORT

A variety of activities are presented during school hours to encourage the learners to develop their gross motor and social skills.  Learners are also encouraged to play on the Jungle Gym and play park to improve their social skills.

MEDIA CENTRE

Learners have the opportunity to go to the media centre and they are encouraged to experience the enjoyment of reading.

Die opvoeders in die Aanvangsfase van Prospectus Novus streef daarna om ‘n erkende outoriteit te wees, in die onderrig van Leerders met Spesifieke Leergestremdhede deur die aanbieding van KABV om sodoende hulle lewensvaardighede, kennis, norme en waardes te ontwikkel wat hulle lewenslank sal bemagtig.

DIE LEERDER

Leerders, met van die volgende eienskappe sal besonder baat vind by die programme wat deur ons aangebied word.

  • Impulsiewe, rustelose, hiperaktiewe en maklik aandagafleibare kinders
  • Kinders wat hulleself nie maklik kan uitdruk nie en oor ‘n onvoldoende
    woordeskat beskik
  • Kinders wat lomp voorkom en goed maklik laat val
  • Kinders wat eerder speel as om  gestruktueerde werk te doen

SPESIALE PROGRAMME

LEES EN SPELPROGRAMME

Intensiewe aandag word elke dag aan lees en spel gegee.   Daar word aandag gegee aan kleiner groepies.  Werk word self saamgestel om by die leerder se vaardighede aan te pas.

REKENAARPROGRAMME

Ondersteuningsprogramme wat aangepas is om by klassikale werk aan te pas.

TERAPEUTE

Enige uitvalle wat waargeneem word by die leerder word by die Arbeids, Spraak, Remediëringsterapeut of Sielkundige aangemeld vir verdere ondersteuning.

UITSTAPPIES

Besoeke word spesiaal gereël dat groepe die skool besoek en aanbiedings doen op die leerder se vlak

SPORT

Gedurende skoolure word die leerders aangemoedig om aan verskeie aktiwiteite deel te neem om sodoende maats te maak, sosiale vaardighede en motoriese vaardighede te ontwikkel.  Leerders word ook blootgestel aan ‘n Jungle Gym en speelpark vir motoriese oefening.

MEDIASENTRUM

Leerders word aangemoedig en die geleentheid gebied om aanvullende lees te doen vir die genot daarvan.
