Accommodations

Accommodations refer to:

  • The practice where a person (reader and scribe) reads the questions to a candidate and writes down the candidates response verbatim, or
  • The practice where a candidate reads the questions and the person (scribe) writes down the candidates response verbatim, or
  • The practice where a person (reader) reads the questions to a candidate and the candidate writes down the response
  • Accommodations may also include the use of EXAM PORTAL, where learners can use a computer as reader and/or scribe.  This entails the use of  text-to-speech (reader) and/or voice-to-text applications

CRITERIA FOR ACCOMMODATIONS

All learners will firstly be assessed by the School Based Support team.  Based on the merits of each case, the SBST will identify learners who should receive accommodations. This could include learners with:

SEVERE READING PROBLEMS / DYSLEXIA

Learners who experience severe reading problems, or, in exceptional cases, who are unable to read.

DYSGRAPHIA

Learners with illegible handwriting, and are unable to use a computer for academic purposes

SEVERE SPELLING PROBLEMS

Learners with severe spelling problems, with the effect that the meaning or content is lost due to the incorrect spelling.

SEVERE PLANNING PROBLEMS

Learners with poor planning regarding time can be helped by a prompter to ensure that the work will be done on time.

PHYSICAL DISABILITIES

Learners, who are unable to make illustrations, should receive accommodations for that specific question, or an alternative question should be provided by the teacher.

Akkommodasies verwys na:

  • Die praktyk waar ‘n persoon (leser/ skrywer) die vraag / vrae vir die leerder lees en sy / haar antwoord verbatim neerskryf, of
  • Die praktyk waar die kandidaat / leerder die vrae self lees en die perso0n (skrywer) sy antwoorde verbatim neerskryf, of
  • Die praktyk waar die persoon (leser) die vrae vir die kandidaat / leerder lees en die kandidaat sy / haar respons self neerskryf.
  • Akkommodasies kan in sommige gevalle die gebruik van ‘n rekenaar met teks-na-spraak (leser) en/of spraak-na-teks (skrywer) toepassings insluit.  Die sagteware wat hiervoor aangewend word, is “EXAM PORTAL”.

Kriteria vir akkommodasies

Al die geïdentifiseerde leerders moet eers deur die Skoolgebaseerde Ondersteuningsspan geassesseer word. Die SBST sal dan, gebaseer op meriete van elke leerder, kandidate identifiseer. Dit kan leerders insluit met:
ERGE LEESPROBLEME / DISLEKSIE

Leerders wat erge leesprobleme ondervind of selfs, in uitsonderlike gevalle, glad nie kan lees nie.

DISGRAFIE

Leerders met ‘n onleesbare handskrif, wat ook nie toegang het tot ‘n rekenaar tydens toetsing of eksaminering nie.

ERGE SPELLINGPROBLEME

Leerders wat so ‘n erge spellingprobleem openbaar, dat die begrip of leesbaarheid van die woord verlore gaan.

ORGANISATORIESE PROBLEME

leerders met swak beplanning t.o.v. tyd, kan deur die persoon gelei word om te verseker dat die werk betyds voltooi word.

FISIESE GESTREMDHEDE

Leerder, wat dit onmoontlik vind om illustrasies te maak, mag akkommodasies ontvang vir die spesifieke vraag, of ‘n alternatiewe vraag mag aan hulle voorsien word.
