INTRODUCTION

Research has shown that early intervention is essential when a child is experiencing developmental delays.  The Intermediate phase offers a safe, friendly and nurturing environment for learners with specific learning barriers and other related problems.  Appropriate teaching by motivated, well-qualified and experienced teachers and therapists, is essential in the early developmental years of a child’s life.  After a period of successful remediation at our school many learners are placed back in mainstream education.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

  • Quality teaching in small classes (an average number of 20 learners)
  • Dedicated, well qualified teachers with experience in Special Education, Speech, Occupational and Psychotherapy in small groups with a passion for the LSEN learner
  • We have Auxiliary services at school, that include a Paediatrician, Psychologist, School nurses and a Social worker that assist our learners in need
  • Acceptance of all barriers to learning by adults and peers
  • Building of self-esteem by experiencing success in academic, sports and cultural activities
  • Audio Aid (all academic work as well as test and exams)

  • Well-equipped classrooms with learning support material appropriate for each grade
  • Interactive teaching – Mimio boards in every class
  • All grades follow the prescribed CAPS curriculum

SPECIAL PROGRAMMES:  READING

Learners attend reading programmes in another computer laboratory once a week to reinforce the skills that were taught in class.

REMEDIAL

Each teaching period is also a remedial period where the teachers analyse the learner’s mistakes in class work and attend to it immediately.  Learners attend group remedial sessions once a week where basic spelling programmes are used.

SPORT AND CULTURE

Learners are encouraged to take part in sport and cultural activities at school.  Our revue group performs at many functions with great distinction.  Our athletes take part in various athletics meetings during the first term.  Due to the fact that our learners come from all over Pretoria, we don’t take part in formally organised sport.

Daar is ook ‘n tweede rekenaarlokaal waar leerders weekliks spesiale leesprogramme volg waar hul vaardighede in lees uitgebrei word.

REMEDIëRING

Elke onderrigperiode is ook ‘n remediërende periode waartydens die onderwysers foute –analise van leerdeers se werk maak en dit op ‘n daaglikse bases aanspreek.

SPORT EN KULTUUR

Leerders word aangemoedig om deel te neem aan sport of aan ander aktiwiteite.  Daar is ‘n puik revuegroep wat jaarliks tydens verskeie geleenthede optree.  Ons leerders presteer ook baie goed by die jaarlikse atletiekbyeenkomste.  As gevolg van vervoerprobleme en die feit dat ons leerders van oral oor Pretoria na ons skool kom, word daar nie georganiseerde sport aangebied nie.
